Product Description:

Jojoba Oil is a cold pressed carrier extracted from the seeds of the jojoba shrub (Simmondsia chinensis). Although widely referred to as an oil, jojoba is technically a liquid plant wax, which gives it a structure closely resembling the natural sebum produced by human skin. This unique composition makes it remarkably stable and long lasting compared to most other carrier oils. The oil is golden in colour with a mild, nutty scent and a smooth, lightweight texture that absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue. At Maduras Herbals, we supply Jojoba Oil as a raw material for cosmetic manufacturers, DIY formulators, hair care brands, and skin care product developers looking for a stable, versatile carrier oil.

About Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is technically not an oil at all — it is a liquid wax pressed from the seeds of the jojoba shrub, native to the Sonoran Desert spanning Mexico and the southwestern United States. At room temperature it is slightly viscous and clear golden in colour, but it solidifies below 10°C. What makes this distinction between oil and wax practically meaningful is that jojoba does not go rancid the way conventional oils do. It has extraordinary thermal and oxidative stability, and its tocopherol content further extends its shelf life, making it one of the most long-lasting carrier materials available to formulators.

The reason jojoba is so widely used in skincare comes down to its composition, which is very similar to human sebum. This makes it a genuinely effective moisturiser that the skin recognises and responds well to. It also contains anti-inflammatory compounds that can help with various skin conditions, and it presents antimicrobial and antifungal activity. Jojoba helps repair the skin lipid barrier, reduces transepidermal water loss, and helps control sebum production, which is why it works well for all skin and hair types without leaving a greasy feel. It is especially useful for dry and acne-prone skin. Beyond its barrier and conditioning role, jojoba helps gently unclog pores and remove grime from the skin and scalp, making it a worthwhile addition to cleansing products and an excellent base for massage oils and protective formulations.

Working with Jojoba Oil in Your Formulations

Jojoba works well in anhydrous products such as balms, masks, butters, and scrubs, and can also be used in emulsions and haircare products. It is a great choice for massage oils and products designed to protect the skin from environmental exposure. Its sebum-like composition makes it particularly effective in facial oils, cleansers, and scalp treatments.

Quality & Formulation Notes

No adverse effects or formulation restrictions are documented for jojoba oil. Its extraordinary oxidative stability and long shelf life make it a reliable base ingredient that needs minimal antioxidant protection compared to most carrier oils. No specific substitute exists for jojoba, as its wax ester composition is unique among plant-derived materials.
