Product Description:

Hemp Seed Oil is a cold pressed carrier oil extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa), a plant believed to be native to India and cultivated for centuries for its fibre, seeds, and oil. It is important to note that Hemp Seed Oil is entirely free of THC and has no psychoactive properties, as it is pressed from the seeds rather than the flowering parts of the plant. The oil is dark green in colour with a pleasant nutty, grassy scent and a light texture that absorbs readily into the skin. Hemp Seed Oil is valued among formulators for its naturally balanced fatty acid profile. At Maduras Herbals, we supply Hemp Seed Oil as a raw material for cosmetic manufacturers, DIY formulators, and skin care product developers looking for a nourishing, lightweight carrier oil.

About Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of Cannabis sativa or indica, one of the oldest cultivated plants in human history. It originates from Asia and has been grown across Europe as well for centuries. One important clarification worth putting on the page for customers: hemp seed oil should not be confused with CBD oil, which is an extract made from the plant's leaves and flowers and has an entirely different composition and regulatory profile. Hemp seed oil comes solely from the seeds, contains no significant cannabinoids, and is used purely as a carrier oil in cosmetics.

The oil is a dark green liquid at room temperature, getting its colour from chlorophyll content, which also makes it prone to oxidation despite carrying meaningful antioxidant compounds. Its tocopherol content ranges from 80 to 150 mg per 100g of oil, and it also contains polyphenols, carotenoids, phytosterols, vitamins, and dietary minerals. The chlorophyll present can actually act as a pro-oxidative compound under certain conditions, so the oil benefits from antioxidant protection in formulations. What makes hemp seed oil genuinely useful in skincare is its fatty acid profile. It carries a high linoleic acid content at 54 to 56%, along with linolenic acid at 24 to 26%, and a useful gamma-linolenic acid content that makes it a good fit for problem skin. It is considered beneficial for dry and mature skin, and it helps soothe irritated, itchy, and inflamed skin. As a dry oil, it blends well with other carrier oils such as apricot, rosehip, or kiwi oils to help balance sebum production, and it works in haircare formulations alongside coconut oil.

Working with Hemp Seed Oil in Your Formulations

Hemp seed oil works well in anhydrous creams, balms, masks, butters, scrubs, emulsions, and haircare products. It is also an excellent oil for soap making. Its dry oil texture makes it easy to blend with other carrier oils, and it is particularly effective in serums and facial oils targeting sebum balance, problem skin, or dry and mature skin conditions.

Quality & Formulation Notes

Heating should be avoided wherever possible, as the oil is prone to oxidation and the heat will accelerate degradation. Its strong dark green colour is also worth factoring into formulation planning, as it can visibly affect the colour of lighter finished products. Antioxidant protection within the formula and cool, dark, sealed storage are both standard practice for this oil.

Applications

Skin Care Formulations: Facial oils, serums, body lotions, massage oils, balms

Hair Care Formulations: Hair oils, scalp serums, leave-in conditioning treatments

Cosmetic and Soap Making: Soap making, carrier base for essential oil blends, lotion and cream oil-phase ingredient

General Use: Bulk supply for cosmetic manufacturers, DIY skin and hair care kits, salon and spa product formulations

Packing and Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat, ideally refrigerated to maintain freshness. Keep the container tightly sealed when not in active use. Hemp Seed Oil is sensitive to light and heat and more prone to oxidation than many other carrier oils due to its high polyunsaturated fatty acid content. Best before 9 months from packaging date.

Caution

Hemp Seed Oil is THC-free and non-psychoactive, derived from the seeds of the hemp plant for cosmetic use only. Patch test is recommended before use on skin. In case of any allergic reaction, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist or physician.
