Cetyl Stearyl Alcohol, commonly known as Cetearyl Alcohol, is a blend of fatty alcohols consisting primarily of Cetyl Alcohol and Stearyl Alcohol. It is a versatile cosmetic ingredient used to improve the consistency, texture and stability of creams, lotions, conditioners and other personal-care formulations. It provides a rich, creamy texture while also contributing emollient properties and helping stabilize emulsions.
Benefits:
Cetearyl Alcohol helps thicken and structure cosmetic formulations while providing a smooth, creamy and moisturized skin feel. It can improve the consistency and spreadability of creams and lotions and helps stabilize oil-in-water emulsions. In hair-care products, it provides conditioning, slip and a softer, smoother feel to the hair.
How to Use:
Cetearyl Alcohol is generally incorporated into the oil phase of an emulsion and heated until completely melted. It can then be combined with the aqueous phase according to the formulation procedure and emulsified thoroughly.
It is suitable for use in creams, lotions, body butters, moisturizers, facial products, hair conditioners, hair masks, cleansing products and other personal-care formulations.
Recommended Usage:
Typically 1–10%, depending on the desired consistency and the formulation.

5–10%: Rich creams, body butters and highly structured formulations
The optimum concentration depends on the overall formulation and the grade of Cetearyl Alcohol being used.
Solubility:
Insoluble in water. Cetearyl Alcohol is soluble or dispersible in oils and is normally incorporated into the heated oil phase of cosmetic emulsions.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use. Avoid prolonged exposure to humidity and excessive heat.
