Product Description:

Moringa Oil is a cold pressed carrier oil extracted from the seeds of the moringa tree (Moringa oleifera), commonly known as the drumstick tree across India. Often called the miracle tree because nearly every part of it is put to use, moringa has a long history in traditional Indian and Egyptian beauty practices. The oil is pale yellow in colour with a mild, nutty scent and a light, fast absorbing texture. Moringa Oil is also known in the cosmetic industry as Ben Oil or Behen Oil, named for its notable behenic acid content. At Maduras Herbals, we supply Moringa Oil as a raw material for cosmetic manufacturers, DIY formulators, hair care brands, and skin care product developers looking for a stable, lightweight carrier oil from India.

About Moringa Oil

Moringa oil ranks among the oldest carrier oils in recorded history, used alongside flaxseed, castor, and olive oil for thousands of years. The moringa tree is remarkable in that every part of it has traditional use — the leaves, flowers, roots, and the seeds from which the oil is pressed have all been part of traditional practice across the Indian subcontinent and beyond. The cosmetic use of moringa oil specifically has been documented for millennia, which gives it an unusually long track record compared to many other carrier oils.

What sets moringa oil apart from a formulation standpoint is its unusual fatty acid composition, particularly its high behenic acid content. Behenic acid is a very long 22 carbon-chain saturated fatty acid that gives the oil its characteristic velvety skin feel and helps protect both skin and hair against oxidation and environmental damage. Moringa oil was actually the first known natural source of behenic fatty acid to be identified, which is why it is also called behenic oil or ben oil. Its phytosterol profile is equally notable, with beta-sitosterol making up 47% of its phytosterol content, contributing meaningful skin conditioning and anti-inflammatory support. The oil is also very stable against oxidation and has excellent slip characteristics owing to its long-chain fatty acids, which makes it a particularly interesting choice for colour cosmetics where pigment dispersion and smooth application matter.

Working with Moringa Oil in Your Formulations

Its slip characteristics and pigment-dispersing properties make it a natural fit for colour cosmetics, particularly lipsticks and balms where smooth, even application matters. Beyond colour products, it works well in bath melts, shampoos, hair conditioners, and hair balms, where its velvety skin and hair feel translates into a noticeably premium finish.

Quality & Formulation Notes

No adverse effects or formulation restrictions are documented for moringa oil. Its good oxidation stability gives it an advantage over many other carrier oils in terms of shelf life management, and no specific substitute exists for it given the uniqueness of its behenic acid content and the sensory profile that comes with it.

Applications

Skin Care Formulations: Facial oils, moisturisers, body lotions, anti-ageing serums, massage oils

Hair Care Formulations: Hair oils, scalp serums, leave-in conditioning treatments, hair masks

Cosmetic and Soap Making: Carrier base for essential oil and aromatherapy blends, cold process soap making, lotion and cream oil-phase ingredient, nail and cuticle care

Packing and Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the container tightly sealed when not in active use. Moringa Oil has excellent natural oxidative stability and a longer shelf life than many other carrier oils. Best before 18 months from packaging date. The oil may solidify slightly in cooler temperatures and will return to liquid form when warmed.

Caution

Patch test is recommended before use on skin. In case of any allergic reaction, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist or physician.
