What is Anti Acne Extract Blend?
Anti Acne is a four-ingredient blend formulated for blemish-focused and oily skin preparations. It is led by Piper betle — betel leaf, known in Tamil as vetrilai and grown across Tamil Nadu, where it has long-standing traditional use in skin preparations — alongside sweet marjoram, Loban (benzoin resin) and Lodhra, one of the classical Ayurvedic skin botanicals. Supplied as a ready-to-use blend in both water-soluble and oil-soluble versions for cosmetic formulators, private label brands, and small-batch makers.

Traditionally Valued For
In traditional Ayurvedic, Siddha and contemporary botanical skin care practice, the ingredients in this blend have been valued for:
- Formulations for oily and combination-looking skin
- Preparations addressing the appearance of blemishes
- Supporting a clear, fresh-looking complexion
- Formulations aimed at a mattified, less shiny appearance
- Classical preparations associated with skin clarity
These reflect traditional use of the individual ingredients. They are not claims about what any finished formulation will do.
Key Properties
-
Piper betle as the lead botanical: Betel leaf is grown widely across Tamil Nadu and carries long traditional use in skin preparations in both Siddha and Ayurvedic practice. It is a regionally distinctive ingredient that few suppliers outside South India can offer with local provenance.
-
Lodhra, a classical skin botanical: Symplocos racemosa is among the botanicals most frequently referenced in classical Ayurvedic texts for skin preparations, and is immediately recognised by Ayurvedic formulators.
-
Loban for its aromatic character: Benzoin resin contributes a warm, balsamic, vanilla-like aroma that carries through into finished products. It is widely used in both perfumery and traditional preparation. Please see the Formulator's Note regarding sensitisation.
-
Sweet marjoram: Origanum majorana, a Mediterranean botanical established in European herbal and cosmetic practice, giving this blend a mixed-origin composition rather than a purely Indian one.
-
Available in both water-soluble and oil-soluble versions: Choose WS for face washes, cleansing gels, toners, spot gels and water-phase creams; choose OS for facial oils, balms and oil-phase formulations. This removes the solubility guesswork from formulation planning.
Formulation Applications & Usage Rate
Anti Acne Extract Blend is used as an active component in blemish-focused and oily skin formulations. Recommended usage rate: 2–8% of the finished formulation.
-
Water Soluble (WS) — face washes, cleansing gels, toners, spot gels, clay masks, water-phase creams and lotions
-
Oil Soluble (OS) — facial oils, cleansing oils, balms, oil-phase creams and anhydrous formulations
- Blemish-focused and oily skin ranges
- Teen and young adult skin care lines
- Face wash and cleanser formulations
- Private label and contract manufacturing formulations
Begin at the lower end of the range (5%) in trial batches and adjust upward based on your formulation's performance, colour tolerance and stability testing. Rinse-off formats such as face washes generally tolerate a higher rate than leave-on products, where contact time is far longer. As with all botanical extracts, run a small trial batch and a stability check before scaling to production.
Storage Instructions
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the container tightly sealed when not in use to limit exposure to air and moisture. Avoid repeated opening and temperature cycling, which can affect extract stability over time. Use clean, dry utensils when dispensing to prevent contamination. Natural variation in colour, aroma and consistency between batches is expected and characteristic of plant-derived extracts and resins.
Why Maduras Herbals?
Our Anti Acne Extract Blend is prepared at a consistent quality and supplied in both water-soluble and oil-soluble versions, so you can match the blend to your formulation system without reformulating around solubility. Betel leaf is sourced from Tamil Nadu, where it grows. Available from 100ml through to 1L with no minimum order requirement, practical for formulators running trial batches as well as brands scaling into production. Every batch is assessed before dispatch, and laboratory test reports can be arranged on request at an additional cost. We ship across India and internationally.
Formulator's Note
This blend is supplied as a raw material for cosmetic formulation, not as a finished consumer product. It is intended for external cosmetic use in correctly formulated and preserved products.
Contains benzoin resin (Loban), a recognised skin sensitiser. Formulators should check their finished product against applicable IFRA standards and fragrance allergen labelling requirements for their market, and should conduct appropriate patch testing. This warrants particular attention in leave-on formulations and in products intended for sensitive or compromised skin.
Variations in colour, aroma, consistency and concentration may occur between batches — this is characteristic of plant-derived extracts and resins. Customers are responsible for testing suitability, stability and compatibility within their own formulation before bulk or repeated-use orders. All transactions are B2B in nature.
